*Project Superstar 2*

5 days... and it'll be the Grand Final of Project Superstar 2! I hardly listen to chinese songs, and I haven't been following the series on tv because its usually over by the time I'm home, so this post is actually for... my church friend! heh.

Well, here comes the big 'secret'... haha... Diya is my church friend! =) She's the female finalist, a really impressive feat. If you've been following the series, or if you'll be watching it on tv this Sunday night (Channel U 7.30pm), please sms and vote for this sister-in-Christ! You might just see me on tv (in the crowd haha) if there're enough tickets to go around cos many of the church members are asking for them.

Here's a yummy pic I took at Junction 8 on Sunday, so funny... haha:

Super 'Kong Bak Pau' (its fake la... haha)

And a cool cafe at the ground floor of where I've been working the past 2 days:

The Book Cafe

(at 20 Martin Road... great for book lovers!)

Let Your Spirit come

Let Your Spirit come
Let Your will be done
Let Your presence fall on me
Christ You've set me free
You're my liberty
Let Your presence fall on me

Let the power of the Holy Ghost
Fall in this place
Come and change my heart, renew me
With Your mercy and Your grace
Let the love of Christ surround me
Come closer to my side
Let Your Spirit fall on me

Sang this song in church today, and it was like... wow.

Highs and Lows

All of us will experience highs and lows in life. The highs bring joy, and the lows disappointment or sorrow. I remember being so happy that I could hardly stop thanking God, and I remember pain that threatened my life.

I experienced a significant high, and a significant low this week. The high has something to do with my walk with God, a humbling commitment, that I believe has taken me a level higher, closer to God. The low was something God revealed, a test of the heart, a test of my faith and trust in Him, that He will provide in His beautiful time.

I know not Your plans for me O Lord, but I will be patient and keep to Your time, for I know then will I have success. I want to serve Your purpose for me in my generation.

God spoke to me about faith again, and here's something important that I'll like to share. This week, I learnt that we must have a 'faith grounded in truth'. Here is an extract from the book:

When you have discerned the truth of God's Word, you have something in which to put your faith. The word faith is often misunderstood and misused. A child once defined faith as believing something even when you know it isn't true. That is not bibilical faith. Faith is not blind allegiance that hopes against hope that something is true. Biblical faith is grounded in truth. God's Word is truth.

Often, Christians manufacture their faith desparately trying to believe that something will happen. Their 'faith' is based not on God's revealed will but on the desires of their hearts. The account of Jesus' healing of the centurion's servant in Matt 8:5-13 is an example of true faith. The basis of his faith was on the 'word of the Lord', which includes the promises of God.

When we think of the word Faith, let's think of the word Truth at the same time from now on.

Something lovely for everyone (^.^) 'Ladies first' heh...

I saw these 2 little posters at Mount Zion (Raffles Xchange) during lunchbreak today. I thought that they were really nice and inspirational, a wonderful reminder of how much God loves us, whether He created us male or female. Please buy them to support the creator(s) if you like them! =)

TILES United!

You guys & gals make me terrifically happy heh! (^.^)

That's US with 'Good News Gloves'! =) On the colorful side there's the 4SL, and on the green side there's what we need to do as Christians.

We did a Discipleship Inventory assessment today, to discern our strengths and weaknesses in our discipleship development. Growth is very important, so it was good to see where we stand in our growth as disciples. The assessment was based on 5 categories: attitudes, behavior, relationships, ministry, and doctrine.

We used the 5 categories above to set goals/resolutions for 2007 too. They are 5 good areas to work on. I think its good to set goals/resolutions because they give us something to work towards to, and we'll know whether we have some accomplishments during the year when we look back at the list we've prepared.

I'm feeling better too, praise God! =)

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly

I had quite a long week at work... so here I am at home getting the rest my body needs. I wanna go out heh, but resting is probably the wiser choice today. Work has been extra busy because we're in the 'peak' period already. This is the time when most companies need to have their accounts for the previous business year checked and have their annual financial reports prepared.

The Good
Auditing is regarded as a profession, just like practising medicine and law. Its well-regarded, and the knowledge I'm gaining on the job has very good practical value. This is one of the main reasons why adequately-trained auditors rarely have trouble finding jobs if they decide to leave the profession, especially if they switch to being accountants. Training takes time though, and I hear that the most highly sought-after auditors are those with at least 3 years of experience. The starting pay is very low, but the increments are adove-average and come quite fast. Another thing I like is that we aren't so desk-bound. We get to audit different clients at different locations, and understand how different businesses operate.

The Bad
The work is seasonal, so we have 'peak' periods (Dec-May/Jun) and 'off-peak' periods. The hours can be quite long during 'peak', when its common to leave past 9pm. I left past 9pm everyday for the past week. I set my new 'personal record', haha... 2am. We can arrive at work later the next day though, depending on how late we worked till. We can claim $10 for dinner, a taxi ride home, and OT hours (not 1 to 1) too usually. Its probably one of the few jobs that allows you to be away from work for 3 weeks or more during 'off-peak' depending on the number of OT hours accumulated. The hours also become more normal (7pm, latest 8 maybe) and aren't so long when one becomes a manager.

The Ugly
You might have thought that the hours worked would be the worst, but it actually isn't because of some compensation at least. The worst part of the job is meeting 'mean' clients. We have to work with numbers, but we have to spent a fair bit of time interacting and writing too. We have to query the accounting staff and document responses. As such, how fast we work can be rather dependent on how helpful and cooperate the client is. Its been a long time since someone really made me upset because it takes quite alot to do so, and that's what a really mean and unhelpful accountant I encountered did on Thursday. She happens to be an ex-auditor and my colleague who has worked with her more was in agreement and thinks she hates auditors. I haven't met someone who comes across as being 'mean' for a long time, and it was a sad reminder that there're such people around. Its certainly not a client that I want to return to, and I'm glad we can request for other clients if need be.

To end off on a more positive note, here's something amusing I saw in my department's pantry last night ha =) They've stocked up some snacks for us, and someone wrote the words of encouragement on the biscuit tins:

"Play Hard, Eat Well, Work Smart, Enjoy!"

33rd Floor

Here's the view, from 33 floors up! =)

I started work at a new client located at Raffles Place today, and it was really a pretty interesting experience. I think this has got to be the highest 'altitude' I've worked at heh. I took the shot above from Singapore Land Tower, which is located just above Raffles Place MRT. Its a nice view, with ships anchored at sea in the background, and the river sparkling like jewels in the foreground.

What made the day even more interesting was something that I found out about the rest of my colleagues for this new assignment. The interesting fact: the other 4 of them are not Singaporeans and all from different countries! Yup, I'm working with a 'United Nations' team! haha. 1 from China, 1 from Korea, 1 from Indonesia, and 1 from Malaysia. I'm the only Singaporean. On top of this, the manager in charge of this assigment is from the Philippines. Its hard to really elaborate how unlikely this scenario is, considering that the bulk of the employees are Singaporeans. The Korean is the only other guy on the team, and he attends a korean church in Singapore by the way... surprise surprise it was =) I'll be at this new client till this Friday at least, will enjoy it while I can. I'm 'happy working'! haha =)

The weather has been improving, and I'm hoping that it stays nice and clear for the weekend heh. Alright, its time to go to bed... Good Nitez!

FAITH

I received a 'Word from God' through an older leader yesterday. It was just one word: faith. He received it while we were praying for spiritual gifts during ministry time. Its not the first time I've received a 'word' from another leader, although it doesn't happen very often. Its probably the 3rd or 4th time over the past few years.

He wasn't sure whether God was giving me the spiritual gift of faith, or whether it was a message to have faith in Him. It could be either, or both. Unlike previous times when I could easily identify with the 'word' that was given because it was something I really needed to hear, it wasn't so clear-cut to me this time, although I can come up with some guesses.

One good thing is that it has gotten me to think more about this very important word. The Bible defines faith in Hebrews 11:1 as 'being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.' I'm also reminded of Hebrews 11:6, which reminds us of how important it is: And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Some have called Hebrews 11 the Bible's 'Hall of Fame'. Its where all the 'Men and Women of Faith' are mentioned. Let's be people who please God, and to do so let's be men and women of faith! =)

*Spiritual Gifts*

We did a Spiritual Gifts Profiling Exercise during SeTT (Seventeens to Twenties) time today. There're 184 questions and the last time I did it was about 4-6 years ago. I couldn't remember all the questions so it was like new to me. It was fun doing it again, and discovering whether or not I had received some new spiritual gifts/dormant ones had become more prominent.

The last time I did this exercise, my 3 most prominent gifts were leadership, encouraging and giving. If you're eager to find out what mine are, here's comes the exciting part! haha. Well, as I half-expected, 2 of the 3 I mentioned earlier are no longer my 3 most prominent. My 3 most prominent now are Pastor/Shepherd, Encouraging, and Evangelism. We answered the questions based on 'what we feel now' and not 'what we feel like we want to be'. Its interesting to note that 'worship' is not a gift just in case some of you might think it is.

Here's the full list of spiritual gifts on the exercise, where I've also included possible ministry areas where the gifts can be best utilised based on the explanations given by the creator and a discussion with co-leaders:

Outreach Ministry: Evangelism, Faith, Healing, Intercession, Miracles.
Worship Ministry: Creative Communication, Prophecy/Perceiving, Healing, Intercession.
Fellowship Ministry: Encouraging, Hospitality, Showing Mercy.
Education Ministry: Discernment, Interpretation, Knowledge, Teaching.
Service Ministry: Administration/Ruling, Apostles/Pioneers, Craftsmanship, Giving, Serving/Ministry.
Open Category: Leadership, Pastor/Shepherd, Tongues, Wisdom.

If you'll like a copy of this Spiritual Gifts Profile Exercise, do let me know =) Its called 'Uniquely Yours'. Its copyrighted, so I'll have to get the original for you as far as possible and I'll try my best to get a copy soon. Its good to identify one's spiritual gifts, so that we can ensure that the prominent ones will be well used (remember the Parable of the Talents). We can also pray and ask God for those that we hope to have but may not be obvious at present.

It was really nice just to meet all my cell members again today. I was especially glad to hear from two of them that they hope to be baptised soon. Its perhaps the second most significant decision in life, after the decision to believe in Jesus as Lord and Saviour. I will always remember the day I was baptised... in the sea at East Coast Park =)

Rain Down

It really amazes me how the sky can hold so much rainwater heh. Today was another rainy day... but I'm glad my spirits weren't dampened in any way =) Progress at work has been good, and it seems like I won't have to work the weekend away afterall, thank God! My throat has been feeling a little odd but its getting better. I took a snapshot of rain drops while taking a short break outside my client's office today =)

Weather forecast:

Rain when I'm in bed

Sunshine when I'm out of the house

Shooting Star in the News

The shooting star I saw on Sunday appeared on the news today! =) Quite a number of other people saw it too apparently, and they also said it was green. Its kinda amazing, considering the details I posted on the blog were so similar to what was reported in the press - News 5 Tonight, Straits Times (Home Section), Stomp. You'll be able to find an article on it on Stomp's website, where you'll also find a picture of it.

I went to Samsung Hub for an assignment yesterday, where I took 'The Lift that goes Nowhere". hahaha. Yet another interesting lift that I've come across. I gave the lifts there this nickname because they don't have any numbered buttons inside at all! Here's how it works: There's a number pad at the lift lobby where you usually find the up/down button. You'll have to select the floor on the number pad, and this info is then transferred to the memory of the next available lift. Step in, and it'll take you to the floor of your choice.

*Shooting Star*

Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.

I saw a shooting star today! =) I saw it at about 7.37pm. Its a really early time to see a shooting star, so it might have been the first star of the night heh. I was walking and when I looked up, there was a trail of light, that appeared to have a green tinge at the front end. It moved very fast, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a plane. It took about 3-4 seconds to flash across the sky, longer than any I had previously seen.

I've been asking God for some signs (not in any specific way), so I'm wondering if this was a sign from Him. Its been a long time since I last saw a shooting star, and I certainly haven't seen one bigger than the one I saw tonight (probably means it was closer to earth). I find it odd to say wishes now so I said a prayer instead after I saw it =)

It was nice. Thank you Lord =)

A Blessed Start

A home day, a party day, and 3 days at ORQ (Raffles)... 2007 started off pretty well for me, praise God! =)

My cell member's JC friends wanted to give her a birthday surprise, and since they needed our help (because I know her parents) to set their grand plan in motion, we teamed up to spring the surprise on the second day of the new year ('auspicious' because... she was born on 02/01, duh.. haha). I cannot reveal the details of this covert operation, but it did involve a less travelled MRT station, a backdoor, undercover agents, and of course, hiding... HAHAHA =D It was a success, and a 'momentous' day when MJC students and TILES united for the common good *lol*

I had a surprisingly light week at work, and I really thank God for that! While most of my colleagues were busy auditing at client offices, I spent all 3 days back in my company's own office doing miscellanous work. The real action starts only next Wednesday for me, where I expect to be pretty busy till next weekend at least.

Its Saturday... and I'm at home... its kinda boring but its still good rest. I think I'll catch up on some reading and a little TV. There's a Masterlife Party in church tomorrow afternoon to look forward to, the reward for six diligent weeks of Masterlifing =) I've a JC buddies gathering tomorrow evening too... swimming's on the program and I think I might just jump in since I really need the exercise...! ha =)

Blessed New Year!

(^.^)

A new year has arrived and I'm looking forward to the months ahead! Like every other year, I'm sure that it will have its ups and downs, but there is hope-that the ups will increase, and the downs will decrease. This hope I place in my Heavenly Father, who made me and gave me life.

2006 was a good one for me overall. It ended especially well =) My greatest joys were helping to save a life (who is a great joy to my cell now), and seeing a brother and sister coming back to the Lord. Graduating, going on a mission trip, holidaying in Japan, and being sent by my company to Penang and Jakarta, were some of the other highs for the year. The lows were difficult, yes, but as I look back, there actually weren't many. I give thanks to the Lord, for on both the heights and the valleys, I found treasures. God is so good =)

One of my favourite verses in the Bible is Psalms 118:24. It says:

"This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."

I believe that this is the year that the Lord has made, and I will rejoice and be glad in it! =)
