February

I'm back! Finallyyy....... =p I haven't been out of Singapore, but I've been out of home quite a bit. That partly explains why I haven't been able to update my blog till now.

CNY was enjoyable for me; I honestly think that I have been enjoying CNY more as I get older. It brings me joy to see the family gather, and catch up on each other's lives.

I celebrated my sister's 21st birthday last week too. She had been waiting and preparing for sometime already, and I was glad that the party went well.

Work has been very busy of late, and the hours have been longer too at the same time. There's still about 3 months of 'peak' period to go. I haven't decided how to utilise my leave, but I might very well be in South Korea for CM2007. I need to spend more time praying and inquiring of the Lord about it and I'm sure that it'll be something that I will greatly look forward to if I sign up.

The speaker on Sunday shared a very important verse that I felt was a good reminder for me and might be for you too, so here it is before I sign off for tonight:

1 Samuel 2:30 (New International Version)
"Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: 'I promised that your house and your father's house would minister before me forever.' But now the LORD declares: 'Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained (meaning: lightly esteemed).'

Let's always remember to honor God, with our words, thoughts and actions =)

V-Day Special

Here comes the V-Day Special, the post V-Day post! =) Its always the day when 'love' is the talk of the town, and it will be the 'talk' of this post heh.

As an action, loving is the greatest good. The two Greatest Commandments in the Bible are all about... love. A time in life will come when love sparks start to fly, and guys and gals will start to look for a companion, a life partner, someone to love and be loved by. Choosing this special someone is one of the most important decisions in life I think because the choice we make will often affect, to a large extent, how the next 30-60 years of our lives will turn out. Its necessary to make a wise choice if we care about our lives and want it to be a happy one with the special someone.

The main objective of this post is actually to share some good resources related to boy-girl relationships that I've come across. Everyone one of them is a collection of experiences that someone else went through. Experience is what most of us young adults lack, and it also happens to be what helps one to make wiser choices. Experience can only be found in people, and to get it, we have to look to those who already have it.

With this, I would like to recommend two books that I've personally read and found to be very good, one more book that I haven't read but heard good reviews about, and 2 seminars in audio.

This book has been probably been on the bestseller shelf ever since it came out some years back, and its almost a must-read. Its written in the American context, so please remember that not everything works the same way in Asia. There're still many many useful pointers that you'll find it in.

This is another best-seller that is also almost a must-read. I finally finished reading this not too long ago, and I do sometimes wish I had read it earlier. The area covered is a little broader, as the author also shares how we can better love people other than the special someone. Its fun and very helpful to find out what one's love languages are.

This is the book I haven't read, but the reviews have been very good, even on Amazon. Its more about loving God, and should keep learning to love God even more as we learn how to love others.

This is a relationships seminar in audio by travelling Pastor Benny Ho. He shares 10 keys to choosing a life partner in his usual down-to-earth and easy-to-understand style. (www.arrowsinstitute.com)

The last audio seminar is by Pastor Joseph Prince called 'Finding Your Life Partner'. Its very funny, and I did laugh till my stomach hurt while listening to it, haha. Please note that I am just recommending this particular resource and not every other work of the speakers/writers.

If you'll like to listen to the audio seminars but don't know how to get them, please let me know via email. Before I end off, here are some random lessons I've learnt over time (in no particular order):

1. An important question to keep in mind would be, 'Is this someone whom I want and will be happy to spend the next 30-60 years of my life with?' Its probably a question to consider till one gets married, after which the focus would be staying commited to each for the rest of one's life. The answer should always be a 'yes', otherwise it might be time to reconsider.

2. Its usually better to be good friends first, before entering into a relationship. You will make a more-informed choice then, which will more likely turn out to be a good choice.

3. Communications keeps relationships alive and how well you can communicate face-to-face is important. According to level of importance, from high to low, it'll be face-to-face, phone, then MSN/Email. Its a good sign when you can communicate well with him/her.

4. Don't rush into a relationship. A 'no deal' is usually better than a 'bad deal'.

5. God will usually give us a few good choices. Sometimes, there might be a best choice among the good choices and we can ask God to show us who.

6. 'Best' choice does not equal 'Perfect' choice though because there is no such thing as a perfect choice. [Imagine this scenario: Boy 1's perfect choice is Girl 1. However, if Boy 1 gets attached to Girl 2, Boy 2 will lose his perfect choice, who is Girl 2. Boy 2 has no other choice but to look for someone else. If he looks for Girl 3, Boy 3 will not get his perfect choice. Everything will be messed up.]

7. Pray, pray, and pray. We can pray and ask God to preserve that 'special someone'. Sometimes, its possible that the 'special someone' might find someone else who might not be a good choice. It can be disappointing but it happens in this imperfect world that we live in. Even if it does happen, God will have a better choice for us if we continue to stay close to Him.

That's about all. It is my hope, and my hope for you, that we will find 'a love to last a lifetime' =)

A Moment to Remember

'Vday Weekend' came and went quickly... but I enjoyed it =) We didn't exactly call it the 'Vday Weekend' officially, but I think its pretty fitting going by the activities we had heh.

R21 Night was at this cafe-restaurant called 'The Lighthouse' near Lavender Mrt. Nice food, nice place and nice people (hehe) ... not forgetting the roses and gifts (random exchange, but it had to be a guy-gal exchange) too... =p

The Programme Card

Guess what I got??? haha. A 3-CD set called 'The Very Best of Love Moods'. I'll get to hear the Harp on Disc 1, Piano on Disc 2, and Saxophone on Disc 3. Sounds pretty good eh? I thought it was a nice gift that certainly fitted the occasion =)

'Part 2' of 'Vday Weekend' came today. After a yummy pizza hut feast in church, we watched a -as you would expect- romantic movie! =D Its a Korean production called 'A Moment to Remember'. It was bitter-sweet like many other Korean movies, but I still enjoyed it alot and would recommend it! It has a 7.9/10 viewer's rating on IMDB (Internet Movie Database), a high score on the website. Its very very unlike me to tear, but I'm not embarrassed to say that I had to fight back tears for this one =p Well, even the male lead had to tear quite a bit heh... and I think guys who watch the show can identify with the love and pain he had to go through.

More info here- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0428870/

That's about all for this weekend. Have a good week ahead! =)

Waffles and Spaghetti

Yum Yum! This post is not about food though, haha. The husband-and-wife authors of the book 'Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti' will be in Singapore to conduct a workshop this Saturday. You might have seen their book at some of the Christian bookshops. I bought a copy quite sometime back, but its one of my half-read books that I think should finish reading soon =p I just got the link for the workshop so here it is if you're interested! =)

Its for both singles (attached and unattached) and married couples.

Brought to you by a Waffle, hehe...

Color of the Month: Red

Just a short post from me today... a rarity of late... so 'catch it' while you can! haha.

Its been a less eventful past few days, but as you might expect, there's going to be a few very eventful days coming up heh. I hope that I can drop by for Campus Day of Prayer coming up, but it'll really depend on my work schedule for the day. The weekend ahead is going to be a 'lovely' one... haha... cos there's not one, but TWO Vday programs by my youth ministry. There's R21 dinner night somewhere out there on Saturday, and we're supposed to bring a friend (in or outside church of the opposite gender) who's 21 and above. *headache* Where to find? haha. Next up would be Vday afternoon on Sunday for those 17-21, but the details are still under wraps! =p (I dunno too...)

That'll be all for today... look out for my 'Vday Special' blog post! ha... (around the 1st few minutes of Vday) =)

Depend Upon His Love

I just uploaded a song that I like alot... and that encouraged me alot during a trying time in my life some years back. I think it'll sound nicer with earphones or headphones cos the guitar will be clearer. Its sung by the worship pastor of Saddleback church (Purpose-Driven), and it has encouraged me again. Hope you'll enjoy it! =)

Here's an inspiring article that I hope will bless you (it mentions the song too):
God's Gift of Inspiring Worship Songs

When I need a friend
Troubles got me down
I'll depend on Jesus
To be my solid ground

When I feel afraid
The world takes away my smile
I'll look to Jesus
He makes it all worth while

Cause I know someday, very soon
He'll open up the skies
He will take me home
So when skies of gray come into my day
I will turn to God above and depend upon His love

When you need a friend
And troubles got you down
Depend on Jesus
To be your solid ground

Cause I know someday, very soon
He'll open up the skies
He will take me home
So when skies of gray come into your day
Won't you thank the Lord above and depend upon His love

I've finally been on a more earnest lookout for a new messenger bag over the past few days to replace my really old one... and I came across some pretty cool stuff heh.

Really nice... but also expensive and really hard to get now.

I designed this myself! *grin*

I nicknamed it 'Air Raffles', cos its in green, black and white! =)
You can try designing too at NikeID
. Its fun!

Its too huge for me tho...
